Particle System Generator Features

Seamless Loop

No matter the duration of your particle system, your delivered videos will always form a seamless loop. Now there's no longer a need to painstakingly loop systems made in your native software.

Guaranteed Unique Every Time

No two particle system are alike. Our tool ensures your particle systems meet your requirements, while also being entirely unique with each render, even if you use the exact same parameters.

Create Visually Cohesive Particle Systems
With The Image To Color Palette Extraction Tool

The Image to Color Palette Extraction tool allows you to specify any image to extract the dominant colors. You can specify anywhere between 3 and 12 colors to extract.

Once you've extracted your colors, you can add them to the particle system's color palette, either by replacing all colors you've specified, or appending them to the active palette.

The particle colors you add to your palette can further be removed or duplicated, as well as edited through the RGB Sliders and HEX Color Code controls.

This feature can extract color palettes from your (optional) underlay background image or from any images local to your computer.

The core of the particle system creator allows you to configure against the following parameters

Particle Colors

Specify any numbers of colors to use in your particle system with RGB and HEX color pickers. Or, use our color palette extraction tool to color your particle system by pulling up to 12 visually dominant colors from any image.

Particle Speed

Slow or fast, it's up to you. You can adjust the speed of your particle system easily to move between gentle drifting or a turbulent vortex.

Particle Size

Make your particles as tiny as one pixel, or much larger. Controlling the size allows you to make particle systems to add a subtle sheen to your videos, or make an effect that demands attention.

Particle Count

Create systems with as few at 10 particles, or as many as 1000.

Particle Direction

Straightforward controls easily allow you to control the global direction of your particle system. You can add further variation by activating particle wiggle.

Video Dimensions

You can export your videos in 4K Ultra HD quality, or choose the default of 1080p HD. Multiple aspect ratios for each quality are also available, allowing you to create horizontal, square, and vertical videos. To see all available options and exact dimensions, scroll down to video features.

Video Duration

You can export videos as short as 1 second, and as long as 30. This variance makes it easy to target platforms that auto-loop your videos with duration restrictions, such as Spotify Canvas. Regardless of export duration, your video will form a seamless loop, making it trivial to extend your particle systems for as long as you need in your own software.

Video Frame Rate

We support export in multiple video frame rates, ranging from 24 frames per second up to 60 fps. This makes it easy to create videos to match sequence settings in video editors, or fulfill the recommended requirements of video platforms.

Create Renders with an Optional Background Underlay Image

While you're configuring your particle system, you can select an image to underlay on your canvas for easy reference and to help fine tune the settings.

You can also use this image to create an additional video which will overlay your particle system on this static image. This option will be presented to you if you have an image selected in your workspace.

Depending on your use case, this extra video file can help forego the need for additional video editor work, and can be a great way to get a high quality video quickly for usage as a Spotify Canvas, or an upload on Social Media Platforms like Tik Tok or Instagram.

Particle System Creator Tool Info & FAQ

  • What Is A Particle System?

Particle Systems are a visual, motion effects technique used across a wide range of video and graphic mediums. They vary in complexity and purpose, ranging from subtle atmospheric effects to the photorealistic modeling of dynamic phenomena such as fire, smoke, clouds, explosions, chemical reactions, clouds, or even galaxy simulations.

  • What Type of Particle Systems Can I Create with this Tool?

The Tuneform Particle System Generator provides functionality to create simple 2D particle systems with the intention of embellishing all classes of images and video with subtle atmospheric effects, both abstract and real, such as dust, rain, or snow. It is not made for the simulation of complex physics.

The tool provides a comprehensive workflow meant for the simplification of creating and rendering particle systems videos. It is further integrated into the Tuneform web app ecosystem to provide easy asset management and ultra fast video rendering and delivery.

The video deliverables provided by the tool can be used as rendered, "primitive" assets, that provide artists with an excellent foundation for further creative experimentation, iteration and realization against a wide variety of visual end goals. The tool can also be configured such that the received videos are ready for use and publishing immediately.

As such, the uses for such this tool are extensive, and the following use-case list is by no means exhaustive.

  • Particle System Use Cases

    Music Visuals

    Spotify Canvas Videos

This tool is excellent when creating Spotify Canvas videos (which are 3-8 second looping videos played back on the Spotify App). Creating particle systems that mesh with your brand or release theme is effortless, as the color palette extraction feature makes it easy to pull out the dominant colors in logos or album cover art. Configuring a compliant video is also straightforward, as the tool offers the required 9:16 aspect ratio, and the 3-8 second duration can be specified.

The background underlay option can provide you with a video ready immediately for upload to Spotify, or you can elect to customize your video further, combining your transparency enabled file as a video layer with other visual assets and effects before upload.

    Audio Visualizers

Particle systems are a visual effects staple of many types of audio visualizers and Tuneform rendered particle systems provide an easy way to enhance visualizers of all flavors. Use your created particle systems as video layers in complex, audio reactive visualizers for official releases. The automatic seamless loop feature also makes it easy to create videos of arbitrary duration, allowing you to match the length of animations and other still images commonly used in extended music mix videos for genres like deep house, lofi hip-hop, and more. You can also integrate your exports into visuals for social platforms, as the wide range of video aspect ratio options allow you to target the recommended dimensions for sites pushing square and vertical formats, like TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter.

    Live show Visuals

Looping particle systems are a huge asset for Visual Artists and VJs creating and programming visuals for live performance. The particle systems rendered with transparency can be used as realtime video layers during live performances. Abstract and branded visual clips can also be taken to the next level by incorporating the particle system effect directly into the final rendered video file.

    Professional VFX Workflows

The type of particle system you can create with Tuneform is used extensively in television and movie productions. Particle systems can be found enhancing shots in Marvel's Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness, Riot Games & Fortiche's Arcane, Netflix's The Sandman, Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away, Amazon's Rings of Power, The Pokemon Anime, and many more.

The transparent backgrounds make it easy to stack multiple particle system videos, integrating them into simple or complex comps alongside many other visual layers or masked and rotoscoped assets to finish your shot. Tuneform particle systems can be exported with a frame rate up to 60FPS in 4K Ultra HD to match master quality sequences and maintain high fidelity through heavy visual effects pipelines.

    Independent & Small Team Productions

Adding particle systems to digital stills can breathe new life into the piece. Both 2D and 3D artists and illustrators can add atmosphere and ambiance to their finished work. Environment, Matte, and Concept Artists working in the film and games industries can quickly create the perception of depth in their compositions when bringing them forward for review and critique. Graphic designers can enhance their client deliverables and web designers can create low footprint video alternatives to highlight and accentuate major focus points on websites.

    Static Image Enhancement

Video Intros, Outros, & Branded Logo Endcards

Creatives, Agencies, and in-house teams creating video advertising for television and web can use Tuneform Particle systems to subtly enhance logo endcards, adding understated visual complexity while keeping company logo focus and legibility at the forefront of the viewer impressions. Independent creators making branded content for sites like YouTube can easily elevate channel intros and outros, as well as post-video call to actions.

    And Much More
  • Working With Transparent Video

Transparent videos feature an alpha channel that describes each pixel's opacity, in addition to the information describing the color of your pixels.

Videos with an alpha channel are treated different on Mac & PC than their non-transparent counterparts. You'll notice that you don't have the same ability to preview videos directly in Finder on Mac, or even in VLC. You may also get an error message when trying to open the video in quicktime.

Fear not, these videos are encoded with the "intermediate" Animation codec, and will work as expected when imported and played back as video or comp layers in your software.

This of course doesn't apply to videos that you render with a background underlay, as there is no alpha channel in these videos.

  • How Long Does It Take To Render?

Like all of the video tools on Tuneform, we make it a priority to ensure your rendered videos are delivered quickly. Particle System Videos are among the fastest of our renders, and generally take 30 seconds to 2 minutes for 1080p renders, and 1-4 minutes for 4K Ultra HD renders. This remains true, even when Tuneform is under heavy load. The range of render durations generally maps proportionally to the settings of your video, with the biggest factors being quality, duration, and frame rate. We also allow you to create multiple renders at the same time (concurrent renders).

  • Commercial Use

In short, videos created with this tool can be used for any purpose, including commercial ones.
